Freiburg Cemetery

The Freiburg Cemetery is located on the Salem-Freyburg Road off FM 2238 just north of the old Cordes Store, later Ehler Store, and immediately south of the Salem Lutheran Cemetery.

According to tombstone records the first person to die who is buried here was Friedricke Olle who died July 4, 1881. Speculation suggests she was first buried on the home place and when her husband, Christian Olle, died in 1913 and buried in the cemetery, her remains were moved to rest beside her husband. The Trustees of the Kaiser Friedrich Lodge No. 48-Order of the Hermann Sons purchased land for the cemetery, in October 1906. Verner Hoffmann was buried here 9-17-1906. In April 1914 a second piece of land was purchased adjacent to the site to bring the cemetery to a full acre.
